(AUS) Dad rapt about backdown on bikie laws

FORMER Rebels bikie Mike Smith says a backdown on anti-association charges has confirmed his faith in the judicial system.

Mr Smith, whose son Steven was one of five men charged under strict bikie laws in 2013 for associating at the Yandina Hotel, was thrilled that three people facing similar charges yesterday had them dropped.

Librarian Sally Louise Kuether, 41, her boyfriend Phillip Frederick Palmer, 55, and their friend Ronald Anton Germain, 61, pleaded guilty in a Brisbane court to wearing gang colours in a licensed premises in 2013.

The pleas came after a charge of participants in a criminal organisation being knowingly present in public places was dropped by the prosecution.

Despite facing jail time if the anti-association charges had been proven, they were given minor fines.

The three entered the Dayboro Tavern wearing Life and Death Motorcycle Club clothing in December 2013, just two months after wearing gang patches and clothes in licensed venues had been banned.

"These poor people have had their lives turned upside down for 18 months based on a crime that was created by the Newman Government," Mr Smith said.

He said he was happy with yesterday's result.

"The laws should have a moratorium on them."

He said they needed to be investigated by the law society "so good, honest, ethical laws can come into being".

Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington reaffirmed his stance against the laws.

"I think we need to start again," Mr Wellington said.

"This (yesterday's case) will certainly be part of the State Government investigation into VLAD (Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment laws) and related laws into the appropriateness of the legislation."

He said he was waiting to hear back from Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath about when people could make submissions to the investigation.

"We've had a number of people wanting to make their submissions."

In yesterday's case, Kuether was fined $150; Germain, who also pleaded guilty to possessing a flick knife, was fined $300; and Palmer, who pleaded guilty to five cannabis charges, was fined $500.

(AUS) Charges dropped over bikie pub meeting

A TRIO who risked a mandatory six-month jail term after they were caught drinking at a Queensland pub wearing “Life & Death” bikie cuts have escaped court with fines after the anti-association charge against them was dropped.

Library assistant Sally Louise Kuether, 40, her partner and patched member of the Life and Death Motor Cycle Club Phillip “Crow” Frederick Palmer, 57, and associate Ronald Anton Germain, 50, were arrested and jailed on remand for up to two weeks after they were charged with knowingly participating in a criminal gang in public and for remaining in a licensed premises while wearing a prohibited item.

But police prosecutor Sgt Martin Longhurst on Wednesday dropped the anti-association charge against the trio in the Brisbane Magistrates Court, adding there was no evidence.

The trio pleaded guilty to the offence against the Liquor Act.

Magistrate John McGrath fined Ms Kuether $150 and did not record a conviction.

Mr Germain, who also pleaded guilty to possession of a flick knife, was fined $300 and no conviction was recorded.

Palmer, who pleaded to possessing and producing for two plants of cannabis, possession of a drug utensil and for keeping a carpet python without a licence, was fined $500 and a conviction was recorded.

Outside court, Ms Kuether’s lawyer Andrew Anderson said she was happy with the outcome.

“She’s very thankful that the court proceedings are behind her and she’s looking forward to moving on with her life and her family,” he said.

Mr Germain said justice had been done.

“I’ve only ever belonged to a bike club, not a criminal organisation, and our club members are not criminal organisation (members) and I hope this sets a precedent for other bikers in the same trouble as we were,” he said.

“It caused a lot of stress and I’m just happy for it to be over. It’s cost a lot of money but it’s well worth it.”

Mr Germain urged for the anti-bikie laws to be reviewed.

“They need to review all the bike clubs that they have on their list because a lot of the bike clubs, and I can’t name them, are not criminal organisations and ours was one of them. I don’t know how they arrived at the fact that we were a criminal organisation. We all work. We used to go for rides ... [we’re] not a criminal gang. There are others out there as well,” he said.

Lawyer Debbie Kilroy read a statement on behalf of her client, Palmer.

“I am relieved and I did not set out to break the law on the 19th of December, 2013,” he said.

“As citizens of Queensland we should be able to go out in public with friends and family without fear of arrest by police and mandatory prison terms. We call on the ALP and the now Attorney-General Y’Vette D’Ath to repeal these draconian laws, known as “bikie laws”, as a matter of urgency.”

The trio were arrested by police on January 24, 2014 and held in custody at the Pine Rivers Watch House for six days before their release on bail. Palmer was held for two weeks before his bail application could be heard.

They were charged after they visited the Dayboro Hotel together at 10.50am on December 19, 2013.

Ms Kuether had worn a leather patch with the words “Life and Death” and “Property of Crow” emblazoned on it.

Both Mr Germain and Palmer had been wearing similar cuts and colours.

Under the Newman Government’s Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act, the motorcycle club was declared as a criminal organisation.

In court, Sgt Longhurst said it was against the law for a person to wear a prohibited item in a licensed premises, such as the Dayboro Hotel.

“These criminal gangs, they do operate somewhat insidiously and one of the mechanisms is the intimidation factor and the aggravation factor of wearing these things in public,” he said.

He said the maximum fine was just over $37,500.

Barrister James Godbolt, for Mr Germain, said his client had spent 25 years in the Australian Army and had served in peacekeeping roles overseas.

He said Mr Germain had only once run foul of the law previously, in 1986 for drink driving.

Mr Godbolt said his client worked in Queensland Corrective Services for 15 years before his retirement due to diagnosed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression associated with his time in the Army.

He said a flick knife found by police at Mr Germain’s Samford home was one he bought overseas and was not for any “nefarious or sinister” purpose.

Barrister Angus Edwards, for Ms Kuether, said his client worked as a council library assistant and was a single mum with three children aged 18, 14 and 12.

He said his client was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 18 years ago but the stress of the upcoming court case had caused some relapses.

Mr Edwards said Ms Kuether had never been before a court before and had won awards for her service to the community in the 2011 floods.

He said Ms Kuether was unaware she was committing an offence when she went to the pub.

Barrister Andrew Hoare, for Palmer, said his client did not set out to break the law.

He said his client’s motorbike was seized when he was arrested and he was a disability pensioner who underwent treatment for diagnosed mental health problems.

He said Palmer regretted deeply that his actions lead to Ms Kuether, his partner, getting into trouble.

Mr Hoare said Palmer was a grandfather who had committed minor drug offences and failed to comply with his obligations to become a licensed snake handler. He said the other offences were only unearthed when police searched his home.

Library assistant and two motorcycle gang members handed minor fines for wearing gang patches under anti-bikie laws as police drop more serious charge.

A library assistant and two motorcycle gang members have had charges that carried a jail term dropped and instead been fined after they were arrested for meeting at a Queensland pub.

Sally Kuether was fined $150, her boyfriend Phillip Frederick Palmer was ordered to pay $500, and their friend Ronald Anton Germain was fined $300 for breaching anti-bikie laws introduced by the former state government.

Brisbane magistrate John McGrath imposed minor fines after police dropped the more serious charges of knowingly participating in a criminal organisation in public.

The legislation, introduced in October 2013, prohibits three or more members of an outlaw motorcycle gang gathering in public. The offence carries a minimum jail sentence of six months and a maximum of three years.

The laws also ban the wearing of gang colours and patches in licensed venues, with a maximum fine of more than $37,500, which is what the trio were fined over.

The court found that they were each wearing clothing bearing the label of the Life and Death motorcycle gang when they met at the Dayboro Tavern in December 2013.

Kuether and Palmer embraced after the sentence was handed down, while Germain told reporters outside court that justice had been served.

The search continued Wednesday for a 25-year-old Winton man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend late last month in Livingston.

Jorge Daniel Vera is wanted in connection with the March 29 stabbing death of Edardo Olmos, 27, of Atwater, according to the Livingston Police Department.

Chief Ruben Chavez on Wednesday confirmed Vera remains on the run from police.

Vera is accused of stabbing Olmos outside a home in the 1400 block of Eighth Street in Livingston during an altercation sparked by jealousy over Olmos’ relationship with Vera’s ex-girlfriend, according to police.

Autopsy results revealed nine stab wounds on Olmos’ body, Sgt. Raymond Fong said.

Police said Vera came to the house in a pickup truck along with another man whose identity was only confirmed later. The second man, Patrick O’Bryant, 24, has since been interviewed by police. He has not been arrested or formally accused of any wrongdoing at this point, according to Fong.

Fong said officers are continuing to search for Vera and said it’s unclear whether he is still in the area. Police believe Vera is a member of the Bar Hoppers motorcycle gang, which Fong described as “a feeder gang” for the Hells Angels.

(USA) Bike Week, lane closures and revenue

CAVE CREEK – During Monday night’s council meeting Town Marshal Adam Stein (r) reported on the Fiesta Days Parade, Bike Week and road closures.

Stein said the town allowed seven days of road restrictions and there were no major incidents.

However, he said there were a few arrests.

Stein said Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office had a saturation patrol on duty during Bike Week and that task force made five arrests.

According to Stein, the longest delays in traffic occurred on March 21 and 28, with the longest, 17 minutes to drive through town, on the 28th on the westbound side, which he said began at the top of the hill by Cave Creek Building Supply. He said the next longest delay of 9 minutes occurred on March 2.

Stein said there were a few minor skirmishes at a couple of the bars, which is not unusual for Cave Creek.

He said he received a few complaints about the bikes being loud but received no music complaints.

The volume of people attending Bike Week in Cave Creek was up this year, said Stein, although he noted it was more of an earlier crowd.

Vice Mayor Steve LaMar asked Stein if there was anything in the permit process that lets him know a giant four-story high inflatable will be installed on top of a building, referring to an inflatable on top of the Tap Haus.

Stein said the ordinance doesn’t permit them and they were asked to take it down.

LaMar also asked if the sign ordinance had any restrictions for profanity and held up a picture of a vendor’s sign for Bad Muthaf---a Clothing.

Stein replied that the town hopes for decency but there is nothing in the town code that would restrict it.

LaMar then questioned if there was anything in the ordinance that prohibits motorcycle gangs, such as the Hell’s Angels, from flying their colors.

Stein said there was not.

Councilman Mark Lipsky asked Stein what criteria the town used for road restrictions, how he determined the length of the lane closures and how many more events there would be with road restrictions.

Stein said any business can request a road closure for an event and if the town determines there’s a need, he will approve it.

He said the lane closures for parades allow enough room for staging based on the estimated number of entries, whereas road closures for Bike Week are based on an estimated number of attendees Stein receives from Mark Bradshaw (r), who owns the Hideaway Grill and Tap Haus.

Stein said the closures taper off at the ends to give traffic a chance to get into the other lane without running into anything.

The only other upcoming event Stein said he is aware of so far is the balloon festival in May.

Councilman Thomas McGuire asked who pays for the additional traffic control.

Stein said the Hideaway and Tap Haus paid for the additional deputies.

Councilman Dick Esser said he received two phone calls and one visit consisting of complaints about bikers moving cones to allow for expanded bike parking that trapped people in the parking lots of businesses so they couldn’t leave.

Stein said throughout his patrols he did not witness any parking lots being blocked.

Clancy asked Stein what could be done to help people who live here to get through town so they can go to Bashas’ or the post office.

Stein said, “We try the best we can to work it out,” but stated with the sheer volume of people delays are inevitable.

Clancy said they need to let more cars through at a time and stated her experience involved only one or two cars being allowed to go through at a time before traffic was stopped again for pedestrians. She suggested they have pedestrians be made to wait until seven or eight cars have passed through.

Planning Director Ian Cordwell said staff was working on alternate routes along Military and Basin roads for emergency access.

Town Attorney Fredda Bisman cautioned council that their discussion was veering off the agenda item as noticed.

During public comment, Sue Mueller said she and her husband love this town and want to live here as long as they can but do not want to live in “Sturgis South” for eight or more days each year.

Mueller pointed out Chapter 114 of the town code states all special events, whether on public or private property, shall be limited to a maximum of four consecutive days per event, unless a longer period of time is requested and granted by the town council in advance.

She said Bike Week began on March 21 and ended on March 29 and asked if this council or the previous council approved a longer period of time.

Because they have to go to the post office to fetch their mail, Mueller said it’s a time-consuming challenge where she has to worry about people running the stop sign and four or more motorcycles going through at once.

She asked, “What about our health, safety and welfare?”

Mueller asked, “Why do we have lane closures at all?”

She said the town doesn’t close lanes for the 3rd or 4th of July even though parking is a nightmare then.

Mueller said everyone loves the fireworks so they put up with the traffic.

She suggested the town not approve a special event permit if they have to close lanes.

Mueller said T.C. Thorstenson should open the gates to his property behind the Tap Haus and put the vendors in there and “park the bikes where they belong – in the Tap Haus parking lot.”

Kerry Smith said event organizers should have to post a bond so when they do put up giant inflatables, in violation of the town code, they forfeit that bond. He said the town could hit them in the pocketbook to gain compliance.

Smith said roads are public resources and closing roads causes a negative effect on other businesses. He suggested creating revenue sharing, whereas those who benefit from the event contribute and then funds are distributed to those businesses that are negatively impacted.

A woman who owns two businesses in town that cater to Bike Week said she’s very grateful for the extra business during Bike Week to make up for the slow summer months.

She said, “I love this town and I would like to see it grow.”

Katya Kincel said, “Why not contact Sturgis and find out how they deal with Bike Week?”

Kincel then asked, “Why is a lot split on the consent agenda?”

Harold’s owner Bill Vale stated prior to Walmart, Harold’s was the largest revenue producer in town. He asked, “Do we want a property tax?”

Vale said his regular customers understand and often stay away until Bike Week is over.

Anna Marsolo said she could show council headlines about Bike Week from as far back as 1999 and state, “It’s always the same thing.”

She said speakers like Mueller have valid concerns and suggested the town put tents and vendors on Bob Kite’s property, have parking where it belongs and leave the roads open.

Terry Smith said the town needs events, which are what help make the town thrive.

He said, “We need events. We don’t want to be like the town next door that has excluded everyone.”

Kaolin Cummens, who owns Flat Tire Bike Shop, called Bike Week a huge asset to the town that drives a huge economy, while noting it’s only one week.

Traci Casale, president of Cave Creek Fiesta Days Rodeo, said trying to restrict special events is a very slippery slope and stated she has never seen better traffic control.

Casale said, “We’re a very small town doing very big things.”

Bradshaw said, “We had more people than ever this Bike Week,” adding, “Any suggestions to make it better, we’re all ears.”

Larry Elliot, responding to Kincel’s comment about asking Sturgis what they do, said, “Sturgis puts up portable walkways.”

Mayor Vincent Francia said council also received comments from Buffalo Chip owner Larry Wendt, who was unable to attend because he was having surgery.

“Bike Week is awesome,” said Councilman Mark Lipsky, who stated he appreciated Bradshaw’s comment about being open to suggestions.

Councilman Thomas McGuire said Wendt commented in his e-mail that in just nine days the Buffalo Chip generated $15,000 in tax revenue.

Councilman Dick Esser stated, “I think we need a solution. I just don’t know what it is.”

Councilman Ernie Bunch said they cannot discount the residual effect special events have in bringing people back to the town.

Clancy said she was all for special events but believed the town could come up with solutions.

LaMar stated Bike Week takes up twice the road closures as all the other events combined.

He said the issue is parking and allowing citizens to have use of the town and post office.

“I’m looking for a balance,” said LaMar.

Francia said Cave Creek has been experiencing success with special events but said they needed to move the agenda along.

(RUS) Russian biker gxxg to ride Red Army's route through Europe

$

A Russian biker gang backed by Vladimir Putin is planning to ride through Europe to celebrate the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the second world war, sparking controversy in central Europe.

A two-week 3,750-mile (6,000km) rally by Russian bikers including the Night Wolves, a fiercely nationalistic motorcycle club, will pass through Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria, before ending in Berlin on 9 May – the day Russia marks the end of its war against Nazi Germany.

“To Berlin!” says a page on the biker gang’s website dedicated to the rally, which is set to begin on 25 April, in an allusion to the Red Army’s famous battle cry.

The commemorative event comes with tensions running high between Russia and the west over the crisis in Ukraine.

The Night Wolves’ leader, Alexander Zaldostanov, who praises Stalin and has vowed to fight the anti-Putin opposition, is under US and Canadian sanctions for his support of Moscow’s seizure of Crimea from Ukraine last year.

The plan sparked controversy in central Europe, with some welcoming the Russians and others saying they should be banned from European Union territory.

The Polish foreign ministry dubbed the ride a “problem”.

The bikers insist their journey is not politically motivated. “This is a memorial rally,” said Andrei Bobrovsky, the organiser.

“The main goal is to pay respects to those killed on WWII battlefields in the struggle against Hitler’s Nazis – soldiers and innocent civilians,” he told AFP. “Another goal is to develop and strengthen good neighbourly ties.”

Who are Vladimir Putin's pals, the Night Wolves?

During their journey the bikers will visit war memorials, Auschwitz and Dachau death camps and Berlin’s Treptower Park, famous for its Soviet war memorial.

Bobrovsky said many Europeans wanted to join the rally, including Germans.

The Russian ride has sparked controversy in Poland, one of the fiercest backers of Ukraine’s pro-western government, and several other central European countries.

A Polish Facebook page, dubbed “No to the passage of Russian bandits through Poland”, calls on the authorities to ban the Russians from the EU.

Jarek Podworski, a biker from the city of Lublin in eastern Poland who helped set up the Facebook page, said that it was “unimaginable” for bikers who have supported pro-Moscow separatists in eastern Ukraine to ride through EU countries.

“We know very well what they are doing in Ukraine,” Podworski told AFP.

“Brandishing Russian flags, they want to trace the footsteps of the Red Army, which in reality did not bring freedom to Poland.”

“The Russians are testing the limits of their expansion. If they pass, there is a risk that in three years they will come for good.”

Podworski called on Poles to disrupt the rally by blocking the roads. The Polish foreign ministry said it was “watching the problem”.

Similar protest groups also appeared on Facebook in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. “We do not agree with the passage through our territory of a gang which publicly supports the politics of aggression,” opponents of the rally said in Slovakia.

“The Night Wolves are a criminal organisation, which was involved in the seizure of Crimea and the Ukraine fighting,” added a Czech Facebook page protesting the ride.

But others were in favour.

“Let Russian, Slovak, Czech or Soviet flags accompany our friends on their way to Vienna and Berlin,” wrote one supporter on the Czech Facebook page.

Zaldostanov, who goes by the nickname “Khirurg” (Surgeon), dismissed the critical remarks. “We are not a $100 bill, not everyone is going to like us,” he said last week. “We are not going to drop our plans.”

The Night Wolves, sometimes seen as Russia’s answer to the American Hells Angels biker gang, count Putin among their fans.

The Russian strongman president famously rode a Harley-Davidson trike at a bikers’ get-together in Crimea in 2010.

The headline of this article was corrected on Tuesday 14 April 2015 because it stated that Vladimir Putin would take part in the biker gang’s rally.

(AUS) Gold Coast Cops corker: Former bikie gxxg member cuffed by police in front of future in-laws

IT’S the stuff of parents’ nightmares — you meet your future son-in-law for the very first time, and he’s wearing a pair of handcuffs.

Tonight’s episode of Gold Coast Cops sees that nightmare become a reality for one couple when their daughter’s tattooed husband-to-be is carted off by police, leaving them dumbfounded in the living room.

The cuffed man happens to be well-known former bikie gang member Liborio Di Vita, who breaches parole by testing positive to drugs. Constable Dean Pawluck is tasked with the job of picking him up from his Gold Coast home and taking him into custody.

But before being hurled into the back of the paddy wagon, Di Vita, 37, has a couple of requests. He wants “a smoke”, and he asks the officers, “Can I do a quick sh*t?” Charming.

With only six days of parole left to go, he’s understandably far from stoked about the prospect of going back behind bars, particularly with his fiancee’s folks there to witness the whole thing.

In January 2013, Di Vita committed a home invasion at Reedy Creek, allegedly assaulting several people, including two pensioners.

In May 2013, Di Vita assaulted a lifeguard at Burleigh Heads beach who had asked his partner not to walk her dog through the flagged area. He pleaded guilty to an assault charge and was fined $1600.

In March last year he was committed to stand trial on multiple charges, including entering a dwelling using force, serious assault, threats and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

What is it they say about first impressions?

The mayor of laid-back Hoorn has said that people in his town felt intimidated on Sunday when biker clubs Satudarah and Hells Angels arrived in town and started what appeared a loud game of dare on a town square.

Bikers of the two rival clubs stood dead straight across from each other on the square, revved up their engines and then rode off. There was no physical confrontation. Telegraaf reported that the atmosphere at the terraces was tense while this was taking place.

Mayor Onno Van Veldhuizen said in a statement that police would investigate the presence of the two clubs in Hoorn. Reports are that Satudarah is intending to open a branch in the town, which has peeved Hell’s Angels. “This matter has the attention of local and national authorities,” said Van Veldhuizen.

A Satudarah member has meanwhile taken to twitter to argue that the commotion is an exaggeration of what took place in Hoorn on Sunday. “Guys went for a ride yesterday and when they get back home they read in the papers that Hoorn escaped a bike war? Yeah well …” tweeted Xanterra Manuhutu, KapikaneSMC.

(AUS) Gaxxs Squad targets OMCG activity as part of Operation Morpheus

The criminal activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs have been the target of the NSW Police Force Gangs Squad in recent weeks as part of a national focus on OMCG.

National Taskforce – Operation Morpheus combines the resources of all Australian state and territory police agencies and key Commonwealth agencies to detect, deter and disrupt the criminal activity of OMCG’s and their members. At the end of March, police across Australia undertook numerous activities with the aim of disrupting the activities of OMCGs.

Here in NSW, the Gangs Squad and local police, together with other agencies, conducted a number of operations resulting in numerous arrests and charges and the closure of the Finks Riverstone clubhouse.

The Gangs Squad, with assistance of the National Anti Gangs Squad NSW (NAGS-NSW)* and the Australian Tax Office, has been investigating alleged mortgage fraud by a senior member of the Finks and a number of associates, including family members. Police will allege fraudulent documents were produced to obtain mortgages for a number of properties and have charged four people with obtaining a financial advantage by deception. Further charges are anticipated.

Two senior members of the Bandidos Newcastle were arrested and charged with assault with intent to rob armed with an offensive weapon on Sunday 22 March 2015, following the alleged assault of a receptionist who was threatened with a knife at a Newcastle brothel. They remain before the court.

Members of the Hells Angels and the Lone Wolf OMCGs were charged with firearms and drug offences after separate investigations by local police resulted in the seizure of a handgun and a sawn-off rifle, as well as cannabis and other drugs. An associate of the Comanchero was charged with cocaine supply and the possession of a knife in a public place.

On Thursday 26 March 2015, Strike Force Raptor and Quakers Hill Local Area Command searched a business at Wellington Street, Riverstone, with suspected links to the Finks. A hydroponic cannabis crop was located, with 396 plants with an estimated potential street value of $1.1 million seized and destroyed. A 45-year-old man was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant and remains before the court.

On Friday 27 March 2015, Strike Force Raptor officers executed a search warrant at the Finks clubhouse at Riverstone under the Restricted Premises Act. Alcohol and other items were seized by police and the clubhouse was dismantled and shut down. Two Harley Davidson motorcycles suspected of being rebirthed were seized by police and are undergoing further examination, while a club member present at the property when police attended is expected to be issued a court attendance notice relating to the possession of steroids and prohibited drugs.

A member of the Nomads and a member of the Rebels were charged with consorting which now brings the total number of OMCG members charged with the offence to 29 since the High Court validated the legislation.

Strike Force Raptor also conducted a number of safe storage inspections on associates of the Finks, with two licenses suspended and seized. Eleven rifles, one shotgun and more than 500 rounds of ammunition were seized following those suspensions.

NAGS-NSW identified four members of the Finks OMCG who held fraudulently-obtained ACT driver licences. With assistance from ACT Police Task Force Nemesis, they were charged with a total of 23 charges and the four licences were subsequently cancelled by the ACT RTA.

Commander of the Gangs Squad, Detective Superintendent Deb Wallace, said the collaborative and national aspect of Operation Morpheus had provided a strong opportunity for law enforcement to better target those OMCGs that posed the highest risk to the community.

“These opportunities include having access to a broad range of information, ideas, capabilities and personnel and presenting a united front through a collegiate approach,” Det Supt Wallace said.

“We know outlaw motorcycle gangs are not confined to one particular state or criminal activity, and this co-ordination enhances cross-border and cross-jurisdictional opportunities to further disrupt their criminal enterprises and their ability to impart their influence on the wider community. This is to the benefit of all Australian law enforcement agencies and, importantly, the community.

“All OMCGs are now on notice as agencies use their full arsenal of capabilities for the purpose of exploiting every opportunity to proactively target the highest risk gangs in each jurisdiction, and detect their criminal activity.

“The community can take comfort in the fact that the officers from the Gangs Squad and Strike Force Raptor have been fearless and relentless in pursuing OMCGs and will continue to do so.”

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to the criminal activities of OMCGS to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it directly to detectives via the Strike Force Raptor online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/Default.aspx?id=49. Photographs and videos can be uploaded to the online reporting page. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.

(*The National Anti-Gangs Squad is a national multi-agency task force funded by the Federal Government via the Australian Federal Police. A strike team comprising AFP, NSW Police Force and Australian Taxation Office personnel is located within State Crime Command to investigate gang-related crime and assist current NSW Police Force gangs investigations.)

(RUS) Russian Night Wolves Biker Gxxg Is Blocked on Cross-Europe Ride

An ultra-nationalist Russian biker gang riding under the banner "For the Motherland, for Stalin" set off on a cross-European ride to mark the end of World War II — but didn't get very far.

Twelve members of the Night Wolves — who have longstanding ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin — were stopped at the Belarus-Polish border on Monday evening.

"[Polish border guards] said we are not allowed to pass through the Polish territory and that I — as the organizer — am not allowed to enter the [European Union] territory at all," Andrey Bobrovsky told NBC News on the telephone. He said that there had been Polish bikers waiting to greet his group on the other side of the border as a show of support.

Now, Bobrovsky's gang must decide what to do next — keep trying or turn back.

The bikers had hoped to drive through Poland, Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic, and arrive to Berlin on May 9 to lay flowers at the memorial of Soviet WWII war dead. But governments in countries en route to Berlin called the trip a provocation.

Poland blocked their entry after local activists started a Facebook page called "No to the passage of bandits from Russia through Poland" garnered 12,000 followers.

After the upsurge in public discontent, Poland's foreign ministry said the group was barred from entering the country because of "security issues" and officials said the Night Wolves wouldn't be able to cross into Germany because of the group's participation in Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Russia's annexation — and reported involvement in the Ukraine conflict — has sunk relations between Moscow and the West to their lowest point since the end of the Cold War.

Germany's Foreign Ministry said last week it does not believe that the bikers would "contribute to the strengthening of German-Russian relations" and Germany's government reportedly has annulled visas for some Night Wolves members.

Despite the warnings, hundreds of the leather-clad bikers from all over Russia gathered at a bike club in western Moscow on Saturday to see off a few dozen of their compatriots on the journey through Europe. The bikers played patriotic songs on their Harleys' loudspeakers and waved Russian flags and Ukrainian separatist banners as they departed to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II — known in Russia as The Great Patriotic War.

Night Wolves leader Alexander Zaldostanov — known as "Surgeon" — told NBC News the European reaction was an attempt to diminish the role of the Soviet Union in the World War II.

"(It's) an attempt to re-write history, to fight against our victory, to take our victory away from us," Zaldostanov said. According to the bearded bikers' leader, the European authorities are afraid of the support the bikers are getting across Europe.

"It's a hysteria on a state level," he said.

Harley-Davidson recall thousands of bikes following customer complaints

Harley-Davidson has begun a recall of 46,000 of their motorbikes after complaints concerning biker safety were made.

The recall issued by the US manufacturer from within the United States has been made regarding the issue of the clutches that are not fully disengaging, resulting in the bikes becoming stuck in gear.

The models which are being recalled include certain Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Road Glide and Road King models from the 2014 and 2015 ranges.

The root of the problem has been attributed to gas bubbles forming and causing the clutch master cylinder to lose its ability to disengage the clutch. If the motorbike is started in gear, the rider can easily lose control.

Harley-Davidson has reported a total of 27 crashes and four minor injuries resulting from this issue.

It is not known as yet as to whether bikes in the UK have been affected and need to be recalled as well. For further information, or if you think your bike may be affected, contact your local Harley dealer here.

(AUS) Bikies get the boot

OUTLAW bikies should turn around if they think Victoria is a safe haven for their violent crimes and culture. More than 100 bikies have found themselves behind bars since anti-bikie taskforce Echo was set up in 2011.

Now the Comancheros, the outlaw bikie gang that was the state’s most feared, is running for cover. As reported in today’s Herald Sun, the Comancheros have abandoned their clubhouses in South Melbourne and Hallam after police laid hundreds of charges against its members.

This has led to the rise of another violent bikie gang, the Mongols, but they too are coming under increasing police pressure.

This gang has been active in recruiting members in prisons. Some have been “patched’’ in prison and others on their release. Police raids have broken the Comancheros. Bikie bosses have fled overseas or been arrested. The outlaw gangs have fought vicious turf wars against each other, which have resulted in several bikie figures being shot.

But, while the Victoria Police and other agencies, including the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Crime Commission and the Australian Taxation Office have fought in the war against the outlaw gangs, there has been what can be interpreted as a mixed message from the courts.

Comanchero boss Mick Murray will be allowed to go on holiday in Bali before he goes to trial for attempting to pervert the course of justice. As reported in today’s newspaper, a County Court judge agreed to vary his $500,000 bail conditions. Murray has previously told the courts he resigned from the bikie gang to spend more time with his family. Presumably, they will be with him on the beach in Bali.

(AUS) Police pressure takes toll as Comancheros lose mantle as top crime gxxg

COMANCHERO bikies have lost their mantle as Victoria’s most powerful organised criminal gang after closing clubhouses and losing members.

The outlaw bikie club has shut its original Victorian clubhouses in South Melbourne and Hallam under pressure from Victoria Police’s bikie Echo taskforce.

Police have laid hundreds of charges against members of the bikie gang.

EDITORIAL: BIKIES GET THE BOOT

The vacuum left by the Comancheros has been filled by Australia’s newest major outlaw club, Mongols MC.

The Mongols are being “taken over’’ by new members described as “Middle Eastern’’ crime figures, many of whom have been “patched’’ within the prison system.

Powerful and violent criminal George Marrogi became a club member before he was paroled within the past fortnight.

Another influential prisoner, Mohammad Akbar Keshtier, known as “Afghan Ali”, is set to join the club at the end of the year when he is released after serving years in a maximum-security prison for two attempted murders.

The Herald Sun understands only one Comancheros chapter, in Williamstown, remains active.

It is run by chapter president Faafatia Faaloia and sergeant-at-arms Norm Meyer.

Faaloia survived being shot in the back on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Comancheros have lowered their profile since a series of police raids more than a year ago.

The gang has also been divided by member finances; some have been unable to pay their dues.

The club’s past two state commanders, Amad “Jay’’ Malkoun and Mick Murray, have both distanced themselves from other club members amid police investigations into their activities, including into allegedly undisclosed wealth.

Murray, whom a court has banned from associating with Comanchero members, is currently facing charges.

Other members have either left the club or been thrown out:

MALKOUN left Victoria for Dubai to widen his international connections, but remains active in buying properties in Australia.

MALKOUN’S friend, Samson Bazi, fell out with Malkoun over a woman with whom both had associated.

CLUB treasurer Justin Clark was thrown out of the gang and jailed following a major Australian Federal Police bust involving drug mules who were smuggling in cocaine from Mexico.

EX-SAS sniper Josh Faulkhead was arrested on major ice trafficking charges and attacks in Mildura. The Comancheros were selling more than $100,000 a week of ice in the Mallee district.

FORMER Rebel turned Comanchero Anthony Moss was convicted on drug offences.

The Hells Angels, the club the Comancheros had replaced at the top of Victoria’s pecking order, has also experienced a period of change involving the toppling of several of its ranking members.

Its most prominent identity, Peter Hewat, is no longer the sergeant-at-arms of its East County chapter in Campbellfield, following his arrest over allegations relating to his behaviour in the towing industry.

Other Hells Angels members in its “Big House Crew’’ are among more than 100 bikies who have been jailed since the Echo taskforce was set up in 2011.

Detective Inspector Ian Campbell, from the taskforce, said its success had been attributed to a collaborative approach by state and federal agencies including the Australian Federal Police’s National Anti-Gangs Squad, the Australian Crime Commission, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Customs and Border Protections Service.

(USA) "Related Through Money" Detroit gang members indicted

Five members of a Detroit street gang known as Related Through Money have been indicted on racketeering charges alleging acts of violence on the city's northwest side, including around a local high school, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Monday.

The indictment alleges crimes such as murder, shootings, carjackings, assaults, breaking and entering of homes and businesses, and robberies and attempted robberies of jewelry stores, said U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade in a news release Monday. The indictment was a result of the collaboration of local, state and federal law enforcement under the Detroit One initiative, McQuade said. The initiative targets violent crime.

"The Detroit One partnership has made it a priority to dismantle violent street gangs to restore peace to our neighborhoods," McQuade said. "By working together with various law enforcement agencies, we are able to detect patterns and repeated crimes by the same individuals to build larger cases out of separate incidents."

The gang, known at RTM for short, operates in northwest Detroit, according to the release. RTM members refer to the area between the Southfield Freeway and Greenfield Road to the west and east, and by Plymouth and Joy roads to the north and south as "Skuddzone" and stake out their "turf" with violence, according to the release about the indictments.

The gang is active around Cody High School and a "number of assault and acts of intimidation at the high school," the release said.

The five people charged with racketeering are:

■Deonta Matthews, 20, of Detroit

■Brandon Owens, 19, of Detroit

■Brandon Sims, 20, of Detroit

■Meyer Thedford, 20, of Detroit

■Antwan Foster-Stockton, 21, of Detroit

The Detroit One Initiative is led by the Detroit Police Department and the FBI Violent Gang Task Force and includes officers from Detroit, Redford Township, Homeland Security Investigations, Michigan Department of Corrections and Michigan State Police.

"As part of the Detroit One Initiative, this collaborative investigation targeted some of the most violent criminal offenders in the Detroit area," said Paul M. Abbate, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office. "As alleged in the indictment, RTM gang members have been involved in assaults and acts of intimidation in and around a high school. There is nothing more important than protecting our children and keeping our communities safe from violent offenders.

"Through the Detroit One Initiative, we wage this battle on behalf of law abiding citizens every day. The FBI, in cooperation with the officers, agents and prosecutors engaged in this effort, will continue to fight for the safety of the citizens we serve."

Past actions of the Detroit One Initiative include:

■Nine members of the Bounty Hunter Bloods street gang charged with federal racketeering conspiracy and other violent acts in furtherance of racketeering.

■Thirteen members of the Latin Counts street gang charged with federal racketeering conspiracy and other violent acts in furtherance of racketeering.

■Fourteen members of the Phantom Outlaw Motorcycle Club / Vice Lords street gang charged with federal racketeering conspiracy and other violent acts in furtherance of racketeering.

■A Vice Lord leader charged under the federal street gang statute for his role in an armed robbery

■Three members of the Band Crew street gang charged under the state of Michigan gang felony statute for violent acts in furtherance of their gang activities.

The police arrested a 33 year old member of the Haarlem chapter of the Hell’s Angels on Wednesday for violating the Weapons and Ammunition Act. This arrest forms part of an investigation that the police launched in September.

When the investigation started, the police searched a house and a nearby shed on Lange Poellaan in Haarlem and found an arsenal of weapons. In the shed the police found a shotgun, rocket launcher, Uzi, grenades, ammunition and a number of cannabis cuttings. In the house they found several weapons, cash and stolen goods. A 53 year old man was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the Hell’s Angels member arrested on Wednesday can be linked with this arsenal of weapons. He is also a suspect in an assault in a pub in Heeskerk on December 27th last year.

The 33 year old Hell’s Angel is in custody for further investigation.

(CAN) Reports of biker clubhouse spark concerns in Langford

Parents with children at Spencer Middle School are concerned that a biker clubhouse with alleged links to the Hells Angels may be opening just steps from the school.

West Shore RCMP has received reports that a Devils Army clubhouse is being constructed in the Langford neighbourhood and said the biker club is not welcome.

“I’m scared, to be honest. I really think it could bring more gang violence to the West Shore,” said one mother who asked not to be named.

Neighbours say renovations began at 2775 Spencer Rd. about a month ago. A tall black fence blocks entry to the building and the number 41 is displayed in large text.

The 41 is believed to represent D and A, the fourth and first letters of the alphabet. Hells Angels clubhouses typically display the number 81, for HA.

Devils Army has been called a puppet club of the Hells Angels. The Hells Angels have denied an affiliation.

A Devils Army presence has previously been reported in Campbell River.

Although there’s not evidence of criminal activity at the location, the RCMP said it will monitor the situation.

“Maintaining public safety remains the top priority of the West Shore RCMP detachment. We will work closely with our neighbouring RCMP, municipal police forces and partner agencies to identify, investigate and disrupt criminal activity and organized crime in our communities,” Insp. Larry Chomyn said.

Mayor Stew Young said RCMP have informed Langford council there may be “an issue.” While the city is concerned about construction happening without a permit, Young said he will leave criminal concerns to the Mounties.

Young, who owns a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, said it’s important to distinguish between criminal biker gangs and non-criminal clubs.

“We don’t condone criminal activity,” Young said. “If they’re a legitimate biker group or whatever, that’s fine. I’m hoping they are, and there are no issues.”

Sooke school district superintendent Jim Cambridge said he has been reassured by RCMP. “They’ve told us they don’t believe there’s any danger to the students right now and they’ve asked us to report any unusual activity.”

He said the district isn’t planning to alert parents to the clubhouse.

Parent Tracey Scown said younger kids at Spencer Middle School will likely be drawn by the clubhouse.

“They have the bikes, the look people are attracted to — whether positive or negative — that’s a draw,” she said.

Another parent said she teaches her kids not to judge a book by its cover, but to stay vigilant.

Local businesses said they aren’t concerned.

Loris Gibsons, who was cutting hair at Gibsons Local Barber Shop, said she hopes for more business, while the owner of a nearby grocery store said he’ll “wait and see,” before making a judgment.

Linda MacInnis, who works next door at Simpson Controls, said she welcomes the club and believes the Hells Angels do good charity work. “They do good things,” she said.

Deborah Dickie regularly brings the children from her Sooke-based daycare service to take advantage of the growing number of parks and facilities in Langford.

She said she will continue to use parks in the area, unless she sees a negative change in the neighbourhood. “If I feel safe, then I will continue to bring the kids to play in this area. But if there’s anything at all — we can’t put kids at risk.”

(RUS) Putin’s 'Night Wolves' stir controversy in Poland

Despite being refused entry into Poland, Russian bikers from the Putin-friendly Night Wolves motorcycle club have visited the former German concentration camp in Auschwitz and a Russian soldiers’ WWII cemetery in Pszczyna, Poland.
They claim they will conduct their rally to Berlin as planned.

The ones that visited Auschwitz and Pszczyna hid the fact that they are from Night Wolves, flew to the Czech Republic, rented bikes and drove to Poland to lay flowers in the camp, one of the biggest Nazi extermination centres, which was liberated by the Soviet Union’s Red Army on 27 January 1945.
Russian bikers started their rally from Moscow to Berlin last Saturday (25 April). They wanted to take the same route as the Red Army in their so called “victory march” over fascism in 1945 via Minsk, Wroclaw, Brno, Bratislava, Vienna, Munich and Prague.

On Monday (27 April), they reached the Polish-Belarusian border but were refused entry on technical grounds. On Tuesday, they tried to get in through Lithuania but were stopped there as well.

The whole event was branded as a “Russian provocation”.

"The kind of political demonstrations performed by the Night Wolves do not serve European-Russian relations well," Polish foreign minister Grzegorz Schetyna said.

Putin’s Hell Angels

The Night Wolves motorcycle gang, established in 1989, openly expresses a pan-Slavic, nationalistic world view and supports the politics of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Putin himself has said they are “carrying out very important patriotic and military work”.

The bikers took an active role in the annexation of Crimea and they are allegedly involved in the war in Eastern Ukraine.

Their boss, Alexander "the Surgeon" Zaldostanov, is on the US and Canada blacklist.

“They praise Joseph Stalin and each year they celebrate the end of the Great Patriotic War – part of WWII which started in October 1941, when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union,” Anna Maria Dynar, Russia expert at The Polish Institute of International Affairs, told EUobserver.

The victory over Nazi Germany is central to Putin’s nationalist propaganda. But there are important differences between the “European” and “Russian” narratives of WWII history.

“For former Soviet republics and the satellite countries, the so-called Russian victory over fascism was the beginning of Soviet occupation, so for us there is not much to celebrate on 9 May. Russians don’t see it that way, they think we are ungrateful,” Dynar explains.

Polish MEP Anna Fotyga, chair of the subcommittee on security and sefence, believes that the Night Wolves rally will be “an opportunity to offend the people of Central and Eastern Europe and promote Russia’s bogus historical propaganda”.

“The gang’s motto, ‘Wherever the Night Wolves are, there is Russia’, ties in perfectly with the Kremlin’s latest strategies,” she said.

“By not letting them into our country we show that we don’t accept their actions. It’s our solidarity with Ukraine,” Wiktor Ross, former charge d’affaires in Polish embassy in Moscow, commented in the media.

Putin’s victory
Whether or not there is a rally, the controversy is already a win for Putin.

“By not letting them in, the EU shows its hypocrisy in the way it grants civil liberties only to some. If they do the rally, Russian propaganda will praise a symbolic victory march over resurgent fascism, because this is what Europe is accused of. In both cases Russian propaganda wins," Jan W. Piekarski, a diplomat and former ambassador, told this website.

In his opinion, the situation reflects the bad state of EU-Russia relations.

"Normally such minor events should not affect diplomatic relations. But in this case we had embassies involved, there were some comments from both Polish and Russian foreign ministries. It just shows that the tension is really huge. That doesn’t bode well," he added.

Meanwhile, there is no consensus in Polish society on whether the Night Wolves should be allowed to pass through.

According to a Millward Brown SMG/KRC poll, 52 percent of respondents didn’t want the Russian bikers to cross Poland, but 40 percent thought they should be allowed to.

(CAN) Hell's Angel gives up on appeal

KELOWNA - Daniel McRae, one of the three Hells Angels associates convicted of beating to death a Kelowna father in front of his sons in 2011, is not going to appeal his sentence.

According to the Vancouver Sun, the victim's son, Kody Phillips, told Justice Mark McEwan that the attack on his father lasted only seconds, “but felt like forever.”

Kody told the court that after the attack, he ran to where his father lay bleeding and unconscious.

“He was seizuring,” he said. “He went white. His eyes rolled to the back of his head. I knew right there and then, he was done.”

McRae, who was 19 at the time, was given 42 months in jail for initiating a fatal attack on Dain Phillips, 51, after a disagreement with Phillips' son. McRae's older brother Matthew along with Anson Schell were also convicted and received sentences of three and a half years and three years respectively. Both have appeals scheduled for this fall.

According to a Vancouver Province report, Matthew McRae was released on a $200,000 surety pending his appeal while Schell remains in custody.

Two full patch members of the biker gang, Norman Cox and Robert Thomas, who wielded the bat and hammer that killed Phillips, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were sentenced to 15 years in jail.
