A TRAINEE bikie charged with bashing a 61-year-old bystander in a brawl at a Gold Coast rock 'n' roll festival has been given bail despite police objections.
Jacob Weseley Little, who police named as a Nomads bikie gang nominee, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is accused of punching the bystander who was trying to take his photo after the brawl at the Cooly Rocks On festival at Coolangatta last Saturday.
Little, 22, was arrested at Slacks Creek on Wednesday night and also charged with possessing a flick knife and obstructing police.
In court documents, police alleged Little was part of a group of five men who got into a street brawl at the Cooly Rocks On festival with seven other men wearing Finks outlaw motorcycle gang paraphernalia.
A classic car was damaged in the fracas and a bystander captured the incident outside the Bellakai Cafe on camera.
Police allege Little demanded the man delete the image but he refused and Little punched him in the side of the head, causing an injury that needed five stitches.
Police opposed bail, saying Little was a Nomads nominee with convictions for violence.
Defence lawyer Terry Fisher rejected police concerns that Little might intimidate witnesses if given bail, saying there was no point as he had allegedly been captured on camera.
Mr Fisher said Little was working full-time as a carpenter and living in a stable relationship.
Magistrate Robert Quinlan said assault occasioning bodily harm was a serious charge made even more serious by the 61-year-old victim's age.
Mr Quinlan granted bail on conditions including that Little have no contact with the victim and report twice-weekly to police.
Little was also banned from going within 100m of the Bellakai Cafe and nearby Coolangatta Hotel.
Mr Quinlan said Little was 'lucky' to get bail given his criminal history and the circumstances and remanded him to reappear in court on July 11.
Former NRL player Anthony Watts, a Finks bikie gang nominee, has been charged with affray over the brawl.
