A high-ranking member of the Black Uhlans outlaw motorcycle gang has been charged after an alleged brawl at an Illawarra pub last month.

A man and woman were at a pub on Wentworth Street, Port Kembla, when they were involved in a verbal altercation with two men just after 10pm on July 20.

The men approached the couple before allegedly punching the first man a number of times in the head.

As bar staff attempted to intervene, one of the men – aged 23 – allegedly attempted to break a glass bottle before being held by a number of his associates, who were believed to be members of the Black Uhlans bikie gang.

Meanwhile, other associates, including a 34-year-old man, allegedly attempted to assault the victim, who was then assisted to leave by staff.

The 23-year-old man, the 34-year-old man and their group allegedly chased and set upon the victim, knocking him to the ground, punching and kicking him.

A short time later, the victim’s wife intervened by lying on top of him, and the group dispersed.

During the affray, the man suffered a deep laceration to his lower leg and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for surgery on severed tendons and nerves in his leg.

Lake Illawarra Police and Strike Force Raptor South also attended the location, but the group had left the area.

An investigation was subsequently launched by detectives from Raptor South.

On July 26, a 23-year-old man was arrested at Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with affray. He remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, officers from Raptor South searched a home at Appin about 6.15am on Wednesday.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man at the home and served Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Orders.

The man, who is a high-ranking member of the Black Uhlans OMCG, was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with affray.

He was refused bail and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on October 17.
